Many people go to Phuket for the nightlife. And rightly so: the Phuket bars and Phuket nightclubs are absolutely amazing and you can easily lose a week exploring the different evening venues.

Many Phuket bars encourage young, pretty girls to sit around and entice (usually male) customers in. Once they’re in the girls’ jobs are to make customer hang around for longer and to help them spend their well earned money.

So while some of the girls you see in Phuket bars may be there just purely for fun; others are there to make a living and are often paid by — or otherwise encouraged by — the owner of the bar.

You shouldn’t be put off by what may be seen as an ulterior motive of these ladies: you can still have a great time chatting to them or playing their games: Jenga and Connect-4 are typically a very popular way to pass the time (please note: you will lose. The loser (you) pays for the drinks). These girls are not trying to con you out of anything: they’re just trying to make a living and have fun at the same time. Have fun with them – but remember what they are and are not – and enjoy your vacation and don’t forget to hit the Phuket bars!
